Five Questions to Ask Before Buying Property as an Investment

An investment property is judged by different rules than a home. Start with these five questions.

A good investment property is one that still makes sense if your plans change. These questions help you test that before you buy.

1. Who will want this property later?

Picture the next buyer or tenant. If you cannot, the property may be harder to exit than to enter.

2. What is planned nearby?

Roads, institutions and commercial projects shape demand. Verify plans from official sources rather than brochures.

3. What will it cost to hold?

Add maintenance, taxes, vacancy periods and financing to the purchase price before comparing returns.

4. How easily can you sell or let it?

Liquidity matters. Standard sizes in sought-after locations usually move faster than unusual ones.

5. Does it fit your time horizon?

Property rewards patience. Match the investment to how long you can comfortably leave the money in place.
